AVIR AT PORTLAND

My mother has lived at Coastal Palms Nursing Home for about a year and a half now due to declining physical and mental health. While there she suffered the loss of her husband the most amazing man you could have ever met in your life whom she was married to for 62 years. You would have thought that she would have declined after all this, but to our surprise she has regained her physical, mental and spiritual strength. I walked the halls of Coastal Palms these last 2 weeks, the place my momma now calls home and I watched and observed and thought…Could my moms recovery have to do with the wonderful amazing nurses who give every ounce of themselves to care for their patients? Could it be that they have an administer who gives of herself to make sure it’s a suitable place for your loved one even when being misunderstood? Could it be the activity director whom the residents love and adore and follow around like chicks following behind their momma hen, all because she is always thinking of ways to make every day life very special for them. Everything from Bible study which they are loving, to bingo in which they get to shop after they win and even when they don’t win, to pick out the many items at their mobile cart of all kinds of very special selected items for them to choose from. Could it be the amazing receptionists who welcomes you as soon as you walk in? How about the kindest most compassionate P.A who truly hears you concerning your loved ones health. Could it be the kitchen staff who produces tasty food, and who tries their best to make cafeteria time an experience? Could it be the best therapy staff in the world and their desire to see our loved ones stay as mobile as they can? How about Angie in laundry who has dedicated her entire life to make sure your family member has the cleanest clothes possible? The head of cleaning who cares if your room is clean and will do something about it when it’s not! Could it be the D.O.N and his passion for excellence and a culture of care that is second to none? Could it be the Social worker who really cares about you, the business staff who guide you through the process. Could it be those certain C. A’s that are there not because of a paycheck but because they are called and want to be there. Coastal Palms like all other nursing homes isn’t perfect, but what I know is what I see, and that is that God somehow has assembled an amazing group of people who are called to do nothing else but to care for the elderly and disabled. Their purpose in life, is the purpose of Coastal Palms purpose and that is to “Glorify God”. I saw you staff, I watch, I observed and watched some more and I want to thank you…You are doing one of the hardest jobs in the world! In fact, it’s really not a job it’s a calling, a ministry,! And you are truly glorifying God by doing your ministry by taking care of God’s most prized possessions. Those who have lived their lives and who are now awaiting their reward! If you’re looking for a nursing home this is the one I highly recommend! And if you want it to work for you and your family member, may I say by experience, what makes a nursing home work for your loved one is not the nursing home by itself, but that you, the family stay involved in your loved one’s life. That’s what makes a nursing home work. Your family member hasn’t passed away, they are still here. And they need you to help them know that they are still loved and whether they were perfect parents, sons or daughters, they need you more than they have ever needed you to be their voice! Coastal Palms, family and God, that’s the secret to the best experience your loved one can have!

Porsha McFarland was amazing! She was the best care navigator. She went above and beyond helping me and my mother in law through the skilled nursing process!

Coastal Palms staff were extremely friendly and courteous. The maintenance staff works diligently to keep the facility looking and smelling clean and fresh! It was a delightful visit in this wonderful facility. Thank you to ALL the staff who help create a positive and caring environment! 🌺
