“My Experience at Brookdale Lakeway Nursing Facility” I stayed at Brookdale Lakeway for a little over two weeks after major surgery, and as an A&O x3 patient who could still advocate for myself, the experience was extremely troubling. I can’t imagine how patients with less independence are being cared for. On my very first night, I pulled the call light because I needed wipes — I was left sitting on the toilet for almost 10 minutes. I eventually had to get up on my own and walk into the hallway in my robe to find a CNA, who was simply cleaning rooms. “Help” should actually mean help. If I had fallen or hit my head, it could have been serious. They also forgot my breakfast my first morning. I even had to advocate just to have my name put on my door so I wouldn’t be overlooked again. The food was so poor that I had to rely on vanilla Ensure for nutrition — but the facility ran out of Ensures for two days. When they finally restocked, all they had was chocolate, which I can’t drink post-surgery. I ended up spending my own money to order vanilla Ensures just to stop my rapid weight loss. I lost over 10 pounds during my stay. Staffing and supplies are another huge issue. Many staff members appeared extremely lazy, and the nurses didn’t even have access to basic supplies like saline. How can proper patient care happen when the staff doesn’t have what they need? Housekeeping left my room dirty for days, and I had to beg for clean towels and washcloths. Despite all of this, I want to acknowledge the few staff members who genuinely kept me going: Naomi ,Jasper, Latoya, Miriam, Kaitlynn, Lavender and Bobby. Their kindness and effort made a real difference during a very difficult time, and I’m truly grateful for them. But overall, this facility broke me down mentally and physically
Wouldn't recommend it. There were probably 3 staff members that did that their jobs but the rest wouldn't and one specific one would say that her job wasn't to change diapers. They don't care about your loved ones. They failed to call the ambulance on my dad when he had fluids in his heart and lungs. They made it seem like he wasn't sick when he was having issues with breathing.
Dont leave your family here. At night, no one attends to them as they should. My mom would have to get them to help my dad or else no one would go see him and shed have to get onto them about. They refused to answer my mom when shed ask them what was wrong with him. The only person who truly took care of my dad was my mom and 2 other nurses.
Quality Score
Carley found exceptional care quality and communication that families deeply appreciated, though staffing levels and consistency in patient attention raised concerns for some.
