Great atmosphere, very welcoming and friendly staff. Knowledgeable nurses with great leadership! I am so happy to see the positive changes at Interlochen with the new administrator and his influence on everyone. When I come everyone is happy and friendly. I am grateful for the social worker Jessica and how she truly cares about her patients. Keep up the great work!
I selected this facility for my dad to receive rehab from a recent fall based on the 4 out of 5 stars experience we had with them in the past. Unfortunately this time it was not the same experience. Upon his arrival things were not like they were before. Keep in mind he is here to receive rehabilitation for 3 broken ribs, a pelvic ring fracture and a non displaced femur fracture on the hip that he broke last year. We were greeted by staff and welcomed on September 24. 2024, but I waited 6 hours, even though I asked for the charge nurse and assistance director of nursing, for someone to come in and speak with us about his medications, his DNR, advanced directives, and my medical power of attorney. Finally I was able to meet with the assistant director of nursing and thought we had everything sorted. I was told they had all his medications available and some had to be substituted until his actual ones came in, but that he would receive all of his medications. Unfortunately that did not happen. My father called me late that night because when he asked for medication he was told they had nothing for him. So I went up there at 10:30 pm to speak with the nurses about my conversation with Lois the assistant director of nursing…. To which in fact they did have some of his medications but we’re just denying giving them to him. More of his medications were scheduled to arrive between 11:30p - midnight at the facility and they gave me their word he would get what he needed then. If they didn’t get what he needed, they would call me and I would drive to his home and pick up his medications and bring to them to use in the meantime. I received no call and assumed all medications came in from their pharmacy and he got his medications. So the next morning when I arrived I was surprised when we were told again that he had no medication at all. Fortunately I had a feeling and drove to his home and picked up his medication and brought it with me. So I load it to them. I spoke with Stacie the Director of Nursing over the phone and she assured me that the medication issues would be taken care of. Unfortunately it was not and my father was still refused medications by nursing staff and/or given incorrect doses. So I again spoke to the nurses and relayed what I spoke to Stacie and Lois about and what he was supposed to be getting and that he did in fact have medications there. Fast forward to September 28, 2024. My father needed to use the bedside commode and pressed his assistance button as he needed 2 people to assist him anytime he got out of bed. He waited for 45 minutes without response, he started to pass a bowel movement in the bed. Finally a staff member responded and as they were attempting to get him up, he slipped and fell backwards onto his bed and into the bowel movement that was on the bed. The staff member assisted him to the bedside commode and changed the bedding. Then left my father on the bedside commode for over an half hour out of reach of the call assist button. We another staff member came in to check on him, my father asked for help getting cleaned up and getting back into bed. He was brought wipes and was told to clean himself up and he was not assisted back to bed and managed to get back to bed on his own… now I can attest to the long response times when a resident calls for help. I have been in the room with him when he has pressed the button and we have waited up to an hour for someone to respond even though numerous staff members passed by his door with a blinking light…. Why couldn’t I help him you might ask?? I had a stroke in March of this year and cannot lift him nor am I stable enough to be responsible for his safety. After all that he requested his inhaler because he was short of breath from his COPD and was refused. He called me and I arrived at the facility to find his o2 saturation at 87 and called 911 and had him removed to ER. So please think really hard before putting your loved one here. Today, the 30th, no one from the facility has reached out about what all has happened. Accurate photos below.
