When my mother arrived at Mercy House, she was experiencing cognitive decline due to dementia, but she was still fully functional in her mobility—able to walk, talk, and engage. After just 60 days, she is now heavily medicated, requires help walking, and has experienced a rapid and troubling decline. One of the more concerning issues is the lack of meaningful communication between staff and residents. Many staff members do not speak English fluently, which poses a serious challenge—especially for patients with dementia who depend on clear, familiar language and consistent verbal interaction to help maintain their cognitive function. Communication is not just a courtesy; it’s a vital part of their care and well-being. Additionally, the staff are not particularly welcoming or engaging, and the overall environment lacks warmth. Meals are not prepared on site and are of poor quality, further diminishing the standard of care. Overall, I am deeply concerned about the care my mother has received and the general conditions at Mercy House.

As a nurse of 30 years, I have been in many long-term care and assisted living facilities and I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. When visiting Mercy house I was truly impressed! The building itself is clean and well-kept with a beautiful, shaded back yard and covered patio for all to enjoy. The atmosphere here is less facility and more like a home. I witnessed staff interactions with residents that were relaxed and light-hearted. Staff seemed familiar with the likes/dislikes of each person during lunch and provided for them accordingly. Caring for those with dementia, comes with its own set of challenges, and these folks do it effortlessly!

We recently moved my mom into Mercy House Caring Facility, and while it’s only been about two weeks, I wanted to share our initial experience—which has been overwhelmingly positive. The entire process of getting her settled in was smooth and pleasant. The staff showed genuine compassion and took the time to answer all our questions, which made a potentially stressful transition feel much more comfortable. It’s still early, but so far, we’re very grateful for the support and care my mom is receiving. We’re hopeful this continues, and we feel good about the decision we’ve made.
