I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible care provided by Skilled Care of Mexia. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the compassion and dedication that each staff member brings. The team at Skilled Care goes above and beyond to treat every resident with the dignity, respect, and love they deserve. They don’t just meet basic needs—they make an effort to truly know the individuals in their care, learning their preferences, listening to their stories, and tailoring care accordingly. What strikes me most is how devoted and hardworking the staff are. Whether it’s the nurses making rounds, the aides assisting with daily activities, or the support staff keeping the facility safe, clean, and comfortable, everyone seems genuinely invested in the well-being of each resident. They respond promptly when help is needed, show patience, kindness, and never act like any request is too small or unimportant. The care is not just clinical—it’s personal. They celebrate residents’ milestones, maintain regular check-ins to ensure comfort, and create a warm, family-like atmosphere. It’s clear that they treat their residents like more than just “patients”, but as people with histories, hopes, and emotions. If you’re seeking a place where residents are truly cared for—where professionalism, compassion, and integrity are not just buzzwords but daily practice—Skilled Care of Mexia is exceptional. I’m so grateful that our loved ones are in their hands.

I never thought I would write a 5 star review for a nursing home. But here I am, there are not enough words to express how thankful I am to find this facility. I transferred my mom to this facility from another and have been shocked at the differences between the old facility and Skilled Care of Mexia. I keep a camera in my mom's room to check in on her throughout the day due to her condition. This is what I have seen every day. 1. The aides come in each morning take her to the restroom then help her pick out her clothes and dress her, fix her hair and during this time they take the time to talk to her and laugh and treat her like an adult with love and respect. 2. My mom likes to eat in the dining room and they make sure they come and get her everyday to take her to down to eat since she cannot wheel herself down. After each meal they also take the resident to smoke. My mom has smoked for over 60 years and this is a highlight of her day. They have a sweet lady that takes time to go and purchase resident cigarettes for them. 3. If I ever call about any concern such as her medicine or how she is feeling they address my concerns quickly. 4. The rooms are amazing not like 99% of other nursing homes they are large she has privacy with her own window and AC/Heat she can control it’s very clean. We are so blessed that a small town had such an option as this for our lives ones that may need it. Thank you Skilled Care of Mexia and all the Staff!!

I had a relative who lived there years ago (i didn't review sooner because of fear of retaliation). Lot of shady stuff happens at that place. To begin a very coherent resident told us the staff was stealing his medication and we reported it to the person in charge. A week later the staff had convinced my relative that some members of our family were stealing from her and they called us telling her she banned them. I drove over to find out what was going on only 2 week after I had major abdominal surgery because I hadn't been banned and everyone was really upset. When I left, there was no indication my relative was angry or upset with me, she was angry with other relatives but she made no mention of having banned them, we still had a very good relationship. As I was walking out I had to take a break due to pain, Yet not even 30 seconds after I left her room, a staff member chased me out exclaiming I was banned and I needed to "get out" and refused to listen to the fact that I needed a second because I was in so much pain. the last contact anyone in the family had from her was a distant relative recieving a letter from her wondering why no one ever visited anymore. If you have relatives here keep a CLOSE eye on them, make sure they're getting their meds and being taken care of. Or better yet, go elsewhere. That place is dirty!
