If the facility was as good as employees like Anthony in PT. Magdalena and Richard who are two of the best nurse aides you could ask for, T T who drove the van, The very nice receptionist with blond hair and several really compassionate nurses, I would give a five star review. 2 is generous. The facility is extremely understaffed, and could use a thorough cleaning. The management staff seem disorganized. I do not think the place is hopeless and I pray the long term guests are much better treated. My sister was there for rehabilitation and now is home where she continues to get stronger. One more thing that bothered me was the condition of the facilities van. Cracked windshields are a safety hazard.

Transferred my Mother here in February due to a UTI and she needed some rehab. She was there 3 days with no way to move as they would not give her a walker, no bath, no evaluation. She is a vegetarian and they brought her meat items daily until I complained a number of times. She was able to walk in the hospital (pre requisite for her discharge) and the Villages called a ambulance service to transport her instead of a wheel chair van. I got stuck with a $1627 bill as insurance would not cover it. Multiple attempts to contact the facility yielded in no replies and no call backs. I removed her from the facility after 5 days or so as all they were interested in was keeping her there and collecting BCBS payments as long as they could. Horrible facility, horrible management. I would not recommend putting anyone at this facility! I will be contacting an attorney to recoup the ambulance transfer which was not requested by us and not needed.

My father had heart surgery on Wednesday, and his physician recommended this facility for rehabilitation. What was supposed to be a place for recovery turned into one of the most disturbing and unsafe experiences we’ve ever had. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Latisha, a nurse who truly represents what compassionate care should look like. She was professional, kind, and thorough during intake — the only bright spot in this entire experience. Unfortunately, everything that followed was the complete opposite. From the start, the therapist who performed my father’s assessment was dismissive and condescending, repeating questions without listening and making it seem as though she was superior to everyone in the room. My father, who is recovering from a stroke and cannot walk, repeatedly asked for help that never came. He was transported to the facility on Sunday around 5 PM. That morning, he felt unwell and requested that a nurse check his blood pressure due to his heart condition. No one came. Desperate, he had to push himself into a wheelchair and try to find someone — something that no patient in his condition should ever have to do. A therapist eventually told him someone would check his blood pressure “as soon as possible,” then placed him on a stationary bike for 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes came and went, and still no one checked his vitals. Afterward, he was returned to his room — no nurse, no food, no water, no medical attention. By noon, he was dizzy, short of breath, and lightheaded. Still, no one responded. When he finally said he wanted to leave, staff made him sign a document while he was dizzy and having chest pains, something he clearly did not understand in that state. From 1:00 to nearly 4:00 PM, he was left alone in his room with no medical care whatsoever. When we brought him home, his oxygen levels were at 84 and his blood pressure was 230/120 — a life-threatening situation that could have easily ended in tragedy had we not intervened. This facility needs to be investigated immediately for neglect and failure to provide basic medical care. The lack of urgency, compassion, and responsibility shown by the staff (apart from Latisha) was absolutely unacceptable and dangerous. I do not recommend The Villages of MacArthur to anyone. No family should have to experience this level of neglect, especially with a post-surgical heart patient.

Carley's Analysis

Carley found serious concerns about staffing levels, response times, and care quality that families experienced repeatedly, though the facility's physical environment and rehabilitation services were noted as strengths.
