I brought my 86 yr old mother to Deer Creek for a five day respite (we both had Covid as did several of their residents.) I told them that my mom had dementia and was a fall risk and usually needed help with walking, dressing, toileting etc. I stuck around for a few hours before I went home for some much needed rest and I noticed that no one came in to check on her and I pushed her call button to the nurses station and there was never a response. I came back two hrs later and my mother had followed some people outside to the courtyard (she was dressed too warm to be outside in July and too sick.) None of the staff knew where she was, I had to go find her! I stayed with her until she fell asleep. The next morning I went back and mom was in the bathroom, trying to change her wet Depends underwear and trying to get a sweatshirt onto her legs like they were pants. We had both cleared the Covid virus by then but I still wore a mask and my mom (and me) were still weak and I was exhausted. I stayed for five and a half hours that day. I got there the third morning and my mom was shivering because she had soaked herself and the bed and the bedding and it was freezing in there. I decided to sign her out and take her home with me that day because I saw so much neglect to residents there. I signed her out at 9:00 am , the desk nurse handed me the log to sign (it was for the wrong person and I didn’t notice, I just signed where they pointed.) I brought her back later that night and as I was pulling up to the facility, they were calling me to ask if my mother was with me because they had only just noticed, we had left there eleven hours earlier!!! Early the next morning I got her discharged (a day early) as she was unsafe at that facility. I don’t know how they have a banner with five stars .

My grandma has been here since Feb and her baseline was improving and she just graduated from hospice! I truly believe it’s the care and and attention the staff that has turned physical and mental health around! Casey, Sam, Amanda and Hector are amazing. I can’t go on enough about the CNA’s, nurses, and office staff. We are blessed to have found Deer Creek for my Grandma.
